MSc Urban Planning 2001-2003, Repulse Bay Site Tour
(Winnie: top most with glasses)

I think I have talked about her before. Today, I received news from my HKU peers that she is not doing very well. She has been admitted to the hospital because of seizures and fever. It has been eight years since she was diagnosed of breast cancer. I can still vividly remember that time she told us in the washroom, she cried, worried and confused. She's one cheery person, whose wit can quickly whip up a joke. She was my very first encounter with cancer. She skipped the second semester and pursued urban planning the year after, which she aced (literally a straight A student).

Between 2001 and now, she's had several surgeries. The cancer metastasize to her lungs and brain. She was supposed to attend my wedding in 2003, excited after a long hiatus, however she was not allowed to travel anymore. She became a Christian, because of professor (whom I very much admire until now), and was active in spiritual and holistic alternative healing.

I am very glad that my family met her in 2006 when we stopped over HK. She organized a dinner get together with our former classmates. Imagine that spirit. That childlike joy is very much contagious. I saw her in facebook, about two weeks ago and we just exchanged 'hi' and 'hello', she was very quick and left right before I could ask her how she was.

The doctors have warned her parents to be prepared. She could no longer recognize her friends, her speech is slurred, but still very cheerful. Below are excerpts from my professor's email to us:

"I am sure she will accept all your kindness and love with childlike pleasure. She's like a baby now and it's good that she's not totally her old self--she would be very worried. I pray that God will take her home in peace and dignity. Let's continue to pray and behold our Father's wonderful deeds! May His will be done and may His name be glorified!"

My heart goes to her and her family.

That is so sad to hear about your friend. At times like this, I don't know what to say but will say a prayer for her.
