Our Neighborhood

24 April 2009

We are surrounded by construction sites. It's like a home builder's frenzy out here. You hear trucks digging and workers yelling. You feel the shake that thunders the house, as if it's about to collapse. This neighborhood will soon be surrounded by lots of houses. I have met the family who will be moving in this coming fall next door to us.

The walk today to and from the school was equally arduous to those winter like chills at noon. It was hot and dry. I was parched and my pits were sweating! Eek! But seeing our neighbors smiling a lot more is a welcome delight. I guess sunshine does that to people, it makes them more friendlier and yes, warm! I had to take detours around block because our house was just surrounded by lots of these cement mixers, trucks, bulldozers, and whatnots. I didn't even get to our mailbox because I am paranoid that people will know there is a little lady with a preschooler alone in the neighborhood.

At my son's school, I met this lovely couple. They fetched their son John, who happened to be in my son's class too (a part-time preschooler as well). Josie, is Filipina from Cavite, while her husband Duane is American who owns a business consulting firm. They invited my family to a Manny Pacquiao party, yey! I wonder what food should I bring considering all these dietary restrictions (oh do I sound like an ailing senior citizen arrr!!!?)... I'm glad little boy blue will now have a playdate who does not play with dolls and does not wear skirts.

Oh, our neighborhood looks lovely! Even lovelier with houses being built. The summer will be filled with the shrieks and chatters of kiddos playing and moms alike. I hope to meet more wonderful souls... so my planet will be less lonely.

What a blessing today was! Thank you Lord for this gift!
