The Date

20 April 2009

with my date

Sunday was sunny! We went to church at an earlier mass than our usual. Grabbed my prescription and the little one's happy meal and our lunch to go, afterwards. Then we left the little one at his Lola Susa. It was a smooth drive to downtown, the warm sun melted the snow, and there are only few cars cruising the tollway. Surprisingly, we reached the theater an hour before the show started.

Denver Center for Performing Arts

I felt like a school girl again when I saw the Denver Center for Performing Arts! I told the husband that I should come back some other time to explore downtown and take loads of pictures. There are a lot of historical buildings and whatnots. Then when I saw the complex, the sculptures, and the people buzzing around the cultural hub I could not help myself but click away. I imagined all the girls from my online hood. How they would be all over the place and be amazed with so many potential subjects. Unfortunately, I had to hide my camera upon entering the theater.

Buell Theater

Tang Concubines, is a spectacular show about the wonderful Tang dynasty that once ruled China and the powerful concubines. It is a visual delight! The props, the costumes, the set, the make-up, and the costumes are amazing! However, I was quite disappointed with the dance moves of the cast -- not to coordinated, not too fluid. The main actors were splendid. It was something different for us, like watching a ballet but not really. The dance presentation was a combination of acrobats, ballet, and some sort of martial arts. The percussion and the musical score were enough to convey the drama of the scenes. There was a soloist whose voice lulled me to sleep, it was like a spa music! She was good! If only I understood what she was singing (I got only one word, Tsonggo - that means China).

with the main characters

At the finale of the first act, I was so mesmerized by the colors. Concubine Wu was crowned the first ever Empress to rule China! Darn, so magnificent!!! If only I could take snap shots, but well just visit their website.

The entire musicale experience is more than a present from the husband. The time away with him on a Sunday afternoon was worth all the while. There were bouts of worry about the little one, but I did not tell him otherwise he would then assume that I am no longer interested with 'dating' hehehe! We grabbed a quick bite at Little India, had vegetable samosa, naan, and chicken tikka masala.

happy birthday to me =)

How do I describe how much fun I had when we roamed around the complex just to satisfy my point and shoot cravings?! I wish my girls were with me, they would have captured how geeky and giddy I was hehehe! By the way, there is a comedy "Girls Only" care to watch it with me? =)
