Not So Terrible, Not That Terrific Either

27 April 2009

No treats for me! I welcomed m 32nd year by checking myself in at the nearest emergency room. The headache which woke me up the other night did not budge despite taking tylenol. I checked my blood pressure at the pharmacy area and found that I was a bit hypertensive at 131/95 with a pulse rate of 106. It got me worried!!! Am I having hypertensive headache? Am I having a stroke? Am I going to die on my birthday?

These thoughts, the pain, and the nausea did not allow me to sleep. I woke up at around 2:30 in the morning and decided I better get myself checked the soonest.

There is nothing serious, so far. My blood pressure apparently is not that high to cause any major concern. The doctor would have wanted an MRI for my headache but it was not available at the wee hours. He referred me to a neurologist since I told him migraine attacks are pretty usual for me. He asked me to skip the niacin and see if my headache goes away, and gave me percocet (that is a narcotic, thank you very much!) and something for my nausea.

Went home at around 5:00 in the morning, took the percocet and went to bed pain free, a happy birthday to me! Wah! But I woke up at around noon with a head pounding and that oh so familiar neck pain which made me cry, coupled with the darn nausea which gave me no choice but to vomit.

Not a pretty picture for a birthday celebration! What could be happening to me?

Although it wasn't the day I hoped it would be, the other side of the world was celebrating for me! Thank you special super girls -- Chelo, Siroy, Jane, Malou, and Kaith! You are the most awesome bunch! Hearing your cheerful chirps and giggles on the other line made me forget (somewhat) the ordeal of being so alone in an emergency room. Can't wait to see those party hats!

Mai, thanks for keeping me company while I was at the ER! At least I wouldn't call it my loneliest birthday ever.

And these were the pretty greetings I got from Jane (I knew you had to wake up in the middle of the night to do just that hehehe!), Zarlynn (it was fun to see you stalking my old albums lol!), Pat (that was a very pretty card as always, your designs are great!), Amy (you are so sweet and thoughtful!), and lots of love at facebook, multiply, and at yahoo! I am glad to have this online community, I can gather all my friends from around the world in a heartbeat. It's really nice to stay in touch, awesome awesome!

Thank you Nette for checking up on me, at least one of us had a great time last night hehehe!!! It's totally weird to celebrate a birthday in bed (except of course...), but what the heck it was still fun to just sleep and eat =)

A darling little angel sang me the most beautiful song that day! Nikki dearest, thank you! Yen, thank you! My phone was rather busy too, I talked to Zar, Normita, Kaith, and Jopie... nalingaw gyud ko! I am glad I tucked both the home phone and my cell beside me the whole day hehehe!!!

Most of all, I am so grateful for my boys who kept me well nourished and well rested the entire day! I feel so bad for dragging them to the hospital at night... I slept like a baby last night, feeling blessed and well loved. There is nothing more I can ask for... except for some more loving hehehe!

(Good thing I celebrated my birthday ahead...)

Che, you must have known (in some bizarre way) that something not that great will happen on the very day. Hmmn... now, there's a thought!

Saw the "except of course..." and can't help but giggle. =)

AHEM!
